Linux OS and netbook help?

Hi,
I am starting to put UBUNTU linux onto my netbook that is an Asus EEE Personal Computer 701 4G, will i need to implement uninformed drivers once a brand brand new OS is installed? for e.g. will i need to implement WI-FI motorist for WI-FI to work once a brand brand new OS is installed.

There are 3 suggestions to question “Linux OS and netbook help?”

  1. Wifi drivers in Linux are mostly included in the kernel these days. That means that usually if it works with one distro (and Xandros has shipped on it from asus) it works on most of them.

    There is an EEE specific Ubuntu called easypeasy:

    You might consider that.

  2. A brand new version comes out tomorrow (the 29th) so will probably have alot of new drivers with it.

  3. Installling drivers in linux is NOT like Windows unless you are an expert this is not for you. You would need to recompile the kernel load many utilities, enter complicated terminal commands. Basically it should work out of the box. Ubuntu has a very limited range of support for wifi, you are better off with a paid linux or you might try Mint linux it does come with some wifi drivers.
