I might go to Europe this summer as well as we am wondering it might not be cheaper to collect up netbooks (eg. Intel’s Convertible Classmate PC) for my kids whilst in a large centre similar to Paris or London. we live in a tiny town, so my common choice is starting online. we wouldn’t thoughts picking up a investigate laptop myself. Electronics in the UK and France are VERY expensive. You could probably get a good deal in the US if you can get to the states. You should just compare prices online and make your decision. If you must buy in Europe, you could get some of the VAT (TVA in Paris) refunded when you return to Canada.
Not sure about the prices, the main thing to look at would be compatability when it comes to charging the laptop/notebook. Electrical systems differ for each country with France, the UK, and Canada using completely different electrical sockets. And there is also the issue of different mains voltage between Canada and Europe. A final thing, what happens if there is a fault with the product, it will be a little difficult to return it to the place of purchase.
