There are 9 suggestions to question “can any one tell me if this is a good deal for a laptop?”

  1. perfect one!

  2. Umm you should get a pentium instead of amd. A 120 gig harddrive instead of 60

  3. $694? I guess that equates to about £400 sterling. Not a bad machine, but I’d want Vista Home Premium for that price. The network card? No, doesn’t mean it has any wireless/WiFi access at all. It suggests it has a cat-5 "hard-wire" network port.
Sorry! Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card (54Mbps) – didn’t see that bit. Yeah, it has wireless!

  4. "also does the network card mean it has wifi capablites?"
not unless it states it does, the laptop is a good deal, minus the vista ;-) , still to many problems with the OS, better off with windows XP. there are many people that are reverting back, beware if you have older hardware like old printer or scanner, etc.
    may be incompatible!

  5. No, but you have a dell wireless mini card listed.
Seems a good workable system to me.
    Look on newegg.com b4 buying.

  6. 694 is a bit high for that configuration

fry’s has the hp DV6305us for 599 after 50 dollar mail in rebate.
it has a bigger hard drive, and a dvdrw instead of the dvdrom/cdrw the dell has.
the hp has nVidia geforce 6150 graphics as well, and wifi.
and hp’s support is better than dells.
sure, it needs another 512 of ram, but it’s a hundred bucks less.

So, i’d be looking for a deal like that or even better.

  7. I say that you should shop elsewhere or reconfigure the system a bit. A lot better can be had for less than $800. Search the net for Dell coupons – 20-30% coupons are VERY common. I recommend the Dell Inspiron 1505 or similar (if the 1505 line has been replaced).

4 cell battery = will power your computer for maybe an hour or so if you’re using it heavly. The standard battery size these days is 6 cells.

Vista basic should also tell you that this is going to be an "entry level" machine. You can get a mid-level dell for less than $800 which would be superior to this machine.

I recommend Core 2 Duo over Turion, but there’s really nothing wrong with that AMD chip.

And yes, this system is wireless capable "Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card (54Mbps)". The other network card refers to the lan port so that you can plug in an ethernet based internet connection.

  8. Yes, that is a good deal.

  9. Vista Basic SUCKS (get home premium) and double the RAM !!
