There are one Suggestion to question “Asus Eee Pc 701 help…………?”

  1. The Intel Celeron processor that you have is designed to operate at 900MHz but has been declocked for use in that notebook to run at 630MHz. (helps it run cooler and use less power) It came with 512MB of RAM. If the actual amount of ‘total’ memory ‘keeps going up and down’, this might indicate a faulty memory module. However, if the amount of ‘available’ memory goes up and down, this would be normal. As you run programs or surf the web, the amount of available memory will change depending on how much of it is needed to run the program. When surfing the web, site information is stored in memory so that if you return to a site it will load faster. These are temporary internet files that are deleted each time you turn off your system.
You can see how much total memory you have by clicking on the Taskbar at the bottom of your screen and select Task Manager then click the Performance tab. If this shows anything less than 512MB of total memory, you have a bad memory module and need to replace it. That system can use either DDR2 533 (PC2-4200) or DDR2 667 (PC2-5300).
If it shows the correct amount of memory, it may have been that you were looking at the amount of available memory your system has which, like I said, changes depending on the application. If you want to remove temporary internet files without having to restart your system, click Tools>Delete Browsing History>Temporary Internet Files>Delete Files. You won’t lose anything important by doing this, just temporary files that your system would delete automatically when you turn off your system.
